LapBand choices at the salad bar

I had the privilege…ok, had to go…to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch with my kids today.  What to do when you’re faced with a ton of reeeeaaaallly bad choices, to wit, Pizza & fried mozzarella sticks?  My answer is: go to the salad bar instead.  If you’re eating something when everyone around you is eating yummy but fattening treat food, you’ll feel better than just sitting there sipping on a diet drink.  But the salad bar has its own set of hazards.  So here’s how to make a salad the Dr. Keilin way.  Start with a base of Betty’s “Grown in the Ground” diet. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots…whatever suits your fancy.  Croutons & tortilla chips are not actually grown, they’re made in big factories, so they don’t count.  A few (and by few, I mean FEW) croutons or sunflower seeds aren’t bad, just for taste.  What about dressing? I’ll admit that most diet dressings don’t taste that great.  But even a few “scoop”fulls of regular ranch dressing have enough fat to meet your entire daily requirements.  What I do is mix a little ranch (1-2 tsps) with a scoop of cottage cheese and use that as dressing.  You end up with a lot of creamy taste and a little extra protein, but without all the fat.

I don’t like cottage cheese, but I am willing to try that. The diet salad dressings are terrible, I would just as soon do without them. Thanks for the tip,

Another variation that I have tried with salads is blending salsa (low in fat) and fat free sour cream. That tastes a lot better than some of the low cal. dressings. You can mix it up a little and use the salsa verde, picante (just watch the sodium), etc… I also drizzle this on my wraps made with whole wheat flat bread or inside a veggie burger pita.

Honestly I personally think salad bars and salads are a waste.
most do not have anything that contains proteins and Im just going to want to eat when i leave.
SO if i go to A pizza buffet I get the Loaded Meat Pizza and take the topping off it and just eat the meat. At least your getting some protein that will fill you up . I might get some veggies with Ranch to dip in for a side. But that generally is enough to “fill” me up .
I dont eat salads. But this works pretty good at Pizza Buffets.
    Hope that helps

There are a other few choices for protein at the salad bar that can be found. Tuna, garbanzo beans (chick peas), lentils, and back beans.
