Mistake of the Week #4

Did you know that eating just 10 extra calories per day will cause you to gain one pound per year?  That equals two pieces of sugar free gum. Sugar free gum!!!!

Now while my husband is unimpressed with the one pound per year, I’m using this as an example of how easy it is for weight to sneak up on you.  If you don’t count calories and have a target calorie number in your head, going over more than just 10 calories per day is pretty easy.  It soon becomes several hundred a day, which will cause the pounds to come on weekly, rather than annually.  So the lesson this week?

count calories  and read food labels

You’ve got to know what you’re putting in your mouth, not just guess at what’s good for you and certainly not rely on the advertisers to tell you what’s a nutritious part of a healthy diet.  If 1200 calories per day is your goal, then 1250 per day will not allow you to lose weight.  It’s that simple.

This inspired me to add that one cracker I ate in the breakroom to my food journal!
