Where are the new posts on the Lap Band blog?

Greetings everybody!
You might have noticed, at least I hope you did:) , that we haven’t had any new blog posts for a while on the blog at http://blog.noscales.com

We haven’t forgotten the blog or forgotten the patients that read it. In fact we continue to answer questions on blog posts. In the past few weeks we have had people from New York and other states far away from our practice in Texas, that have found the blog and found the content useful.

So why haven’t we written anything new? Well we are at work with a group of doctors on an exciting new project and a new website. There are Lap Band surgeons around the country that we are teaming up with to offer patients a place to get news and information on Lap Bands from a variety of Lap Band surgeons around the country.

It looks like this project will be complete within the next few months after we get together at the annual meeting of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery, which is at the end of June. Until then we and other surgeons are adding a few posts to that site so it will have some content when people turn to it.

Until then, our blog posts on http://blog.noscales.com will slow down, and we anticipate about one post a week. Remember that we have a few years’ worth of posts, so even if it not “new”, it may be “new to you!” Take a look at the Archives on the blog, we have posts from 3 years ago! Just because a blog post is old, doesn’t mean it won’t have information that is not new or relevant to you. As always, any questions you have, post them on the blog post, and we will be happy to answer them.

So stay tuned, and no we haven’t forgotten about you.

I recently got a fill on April 15th and I was just wondering if it was normal for the Lap-Band to fill tighter on some days than others?

  2. Dr. Ron Hekier Says:

Absolutely. Many factors can change the sense of “tightness.”
For women their menstrual cycle can affect things. Psychological stress, the types of food you’ve been eating, your level of hydration are a few more examples of items that can change your feeling of tightness.
Use the search bar at the top right of the blog to search for prior posts. Use the term “fills” or “tight.”
    Thanks!

    Hi!

I got my band in AZ – but I love this site! So much good information, and very supportive! I have been losing nicely, almost 80 lbs! recently got a .4cc fill though, and was super tight – couldn’t get anything solid down after a couple days, or sporadically could, but not much. I went back and got some out .3 cc, and now I feel way to loose! My question is, do you think this is just my perception after being so tight, and should I just wait it out and see before getting another? I don’t want to be too tight, and unable to eat, but I don’t want to feel hungry either!

Can .3cc make that much of a difference? Wanna find that sweet spot everyone talks about! ;)

  4. Dr. Ron Hekier Says:

Welcome to the site! Yes, any small amount can make a big difference. Talk to your Lap Band surgeon or their coordinator for their advice. They might want to split the difference on the next fill and give half of what you had before. Good luck!

Just had to say that your site by far has been the most informational, helpful and straight to the medical/healthy point I have read to date! Been web surfing for a while for answers to some of my probs and yours popped up (thank goodness) when I had a sinus drainage prob! Thank you for the information and ya’ll will definitely be my go to website for all my lap band issues!
    Best always,

    All the best.

I received the lapband on July 9th. Had an appointment yesterday & was told the burning spells I’m having around my port is normal but these spells are almost unbarable, it doubles me over. The burning subsides in about 10-15 seconds. They seem to getting more frequent, 3 or 4 times a day. What is this?

  8. Dr. Ron Hekier Says:

The port is often placed on the abdominal wall muscle. You might feel some pulling, burning, or soreness for up to 6 or even 8 weeks after surgery. Some patients also feel some discomfort after physical activity that involves a lot of pulling or twisting but this is generally mild.

Hi! I have a sinus infection and since I’ve been sick it feels like my band has gotten WAY tighter. I had trouble with water the other night. Since I got antibiotics I’ve been feeling a bit better, and can drink, but food has been really tough. Can coughing have made my band slip? Or will I just be swollen and it will eventually get looser as the cold coughing and mucus goes away?

  10. newjulie Says:

I had my band done in 07. Just wanted to know how important or how often the band should be checked? what is there to check if there are no obvious problems with it?

  11. Dr. Ron Hekier Says:

We recommend following up with your doctor at least every 6 months once you have reached your goal. Having said that, there are some long term patients that come in for less frequent followup.
